During the summer of 2023, I had the pleasure of working as a Junior Interior Design intern with Jenny Martin and her Incredible team in Victoria, BC, to gain 120 hours of work experience in the field. This work term provided me with an understanding of the design and building process from start to finish of a project. Building relationships with clients, suppliers, and trades, on-site measuring for as-is drawings, developing feasible designs, working with budget and time restraints, and day-to-day organization of materials, packages, and supplies were part of my day-to-day schedule.

Working with Jenny Martin Design was such a surreal experience. From witnessing the professional side of design through networking meetings and real life projects, to the goofy side of step count competitions and birthday decorations all over my desk. I feel so lucky to have worked with so many of VIU’s interior design alumni and to have been lead by such an incredible group of powerful women.

I’m so excited to take all of the knowledge I’ve obtained from these amazing ladies and finally put it to use after graduation this year!
